Ms Washington is proud of her strong heritage of Indian/African/American. It symbolizes for her both tragedy and triumph. She lives her life encouraging others; helping them to understand, they do not have to be or remain the victim. Born the daughter of a black sharecropper in 1953 before the civil rights movement, she remembers the challenges of her past and some of the uninformed choices she made due to lack of knowledge or a reliable support system. Experiencing many of the perils common to girls reared in poverty, Mary was resilient in surviving many challenges; mental abuse associated with the tone of her skin from both white and black, incest from close family members, negligence within a family of 11 children, and promiscuity as a result of violations she had suffered. When asked how she believes she made it through all this and more, she responds “it is only by the grace of God and the godly people He put in my path”. Her empathy is great toward any lady experiencing or having experienced some of the same challenges of life she came through; but not to the point of undue pity. Her belief is that every human is a party to their success and when you are willing to do the action; God has given the directions to make your life prosperous. Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. |

Mrs. Lewis is a strong advocate of life success for impoverished girls and women. Junior mom to two siblings as the oldest of three children, while her mom worked, she is very familiar with the challenges, when one lacks an intact support system. Born to a 16 year old mom who chose to keep her child and face the issues that came with it; Sha'ree has experienced both first and second hand the calamities of life that are promoted when there is lack. Her soul desire is to serve youth as a catalyst to a better life. Helping them to know that even though drugs or a legitimate job could net them cash; higher learning such as pursuing degrees on bachelor, master or doctorate levels are spring-boards to earthly success; And the ultimate life experience will be found in Christ Jesus by making Him their Lord. She is saved and committed to the Lord and gives Him glory for her 1.5 GPA changing to a 3.7 through her Bachelors and now Masters Program where she graduated May of 2012. Sha’ree is the first of her immediate family to attend a Master's Program, and the 2nd to complete a Bachelors Program, with her brother being the first to receive a Bachelor in Mathematics, and her sister pursuing her Bachelor in Criminal Justice; both saved. These are all testimonies to how connecting to the will of God and a support team that works can make the difference in a life. The very light that seemed so dim in her family's life, has now become a beacon shining for many to follow out of the darkness. |
